2018 TEAM OUTLOOK:

Offense: Offensively, the 2018 Forrest Rockets will rely heavily on the leadership of the senior class (JT Ferguson, Dustin Brashear, Jaylen Smith, Dylan Eady, Drew Daughrity, Jarvis Lyttle, Lane Allen and Ryan Moses). This group has accumulated the 2nd most wins in school history and has valuable experience and leadership at the plate. The Rockets will also look for offensive contributions from the junior class (Grayson Whaley, Gauge Anderson, Ethan Mealer, Brett Burnham, and Devin Aydelott) to help duplicate the success of the 2017 season.

Defense: Defense looks to be a strong suit for this Rockets team as they return their starting Shortstop (Jaylen Smith), 1st Baseman (Dustin Brashear), 3rd Baseman (Ethan Mealer), catchers (Ryan Moses and Blaize Sweeney), and Centerfielder (JT Ferguson). The rest of the infield will be rounded out by a platoon of contributions from Dylan Eady, Brett Burnham, Grayson Whaley and many others). The rest of the outfield will feature contributions from seniors Drew Daughrity, Jarvis Lyttle, and juniors Gauge Anderson, Tyler Wildrick and Devin Aydelott.

Pitching: The pitching staff looks to return to its dominant form as they return Ethan Mealer (7-2, 77 K's, 1.31 ERA) and Dustin Brashear (2-1, 18 K's, 1.43 ERA) at the top of the rotation. The Rockets will look for contributions from LHP Lane Allen (returning from Tommy John surgery), RHP Grayson Whaley, RHP Drew Daughrity, RHP Tyler Wildrick and LHP Jarvis Lyttle to handle the bullpen/relief duties. The Rockets will also feature one of the deepest staffs in recent history with over 14 pitchers on staff ranging with experience from seniors down to freshmen.

Overall outlook: The Rockets will look to build on the success of the 2017 season (23-12-1 record, District 5A Champions, Region 5A Champions, 13th Sectional appearance in school history) as they venture into a new district and AA classification. The Rockets will feature a deep pitching staff with a plethora of both offensive and defensive experience from returning starters. The 2018 Rocket baseball team is built on the premise of strong team defense, veteran pitching, intelligent baserunning, and timely hitting. The Rockets will look for big contributions from seniors, juniors, sophomores, and even freshmen alike to duplicate the success of the 2017 season
